There are so many things that I have discovered about R while learning the programming language. I wanted a place to collect all of the techniques and my experiments with new packages. One, so I could have a place to refer to; and two, so in a way I could pay it forward and be an example for another future data scientist. Why did I call it “Real Magic”? When people have shared things they have done with R, so many people have called it computer wizardry. And they are right. It’s real-life magic!
I am a burgeoning data scientist, beginning work on my doctoral disseration in Quantitative Psychology at the University of Missouri. My career interests involve learning and sharing the world of data science. I have experience with machine learning and feature engineering, Bayesian statistics, GIT version control, and app development with Shiny. My analysis tool of choice is R, but I am learning Python as well. Outside of the professional world, I am an avid writer and I go rock climbing whenever I can.
Code-RLadies is a group in mid-Missouri that is focused on promoting data science and related tools among under-represented groups. It is a chapter of R-Ladies Global for the mid-Missouri area. I founded this group along with Linda Landon (@researchcommunK) and Krista Gaylen (@kgalyen). Our goal for the group is to create and grow a community for promoting and supporting each other in the data science world. While the main focus of the group is around the programming language R, we also want to be inclusive in programming languages. By learning a large variety of programming techniques and skills we can become stronger in our chosen area of expertise.
